Nelson e sua irmã, Roberta Nelson, foram criados por seu avós depois que seu pai faleceu e sua mãe saiu de casa. Wiilie tocava violão enquanto Bobbie tocava piano.

Willie Nelson é reconhecido mundialmente como um dos ícones norte americano da música country.
